Nokia Health : Combining Design Thinking and Behavior Change Theory
Nokia Health (now Withings) asked Mad*Pow to concept a companion digital program to their wearable devices in order to help their users manage hypertension. To accomplish this we combined Design Thinking methods with an evidence based approach to behavior change, borrowing from the domains of public health and psychology, to create a solution that would not only be engaging but actually make a health impact.
The Process
Literature Review - review peer reviewed journal articles to identify which health behaviors would have the biggest impact on hypertension management
In Depth Interviews - to uncover the actual barriers people had to performing target health behaviors
Behavior Change Workshop - leveraged the COM-B model, an evidence based behavior change framework, to ideate on the digital features and content that would facilitate users’ health behavior. We then collaboratively sketched and prioritized concepts.
Storyboarding and Prototyping - translate foundational ideas from the workshop into a cohesive product that we could test with users.
